COGNO ASM Session 5: Glioma Including Plenary 4

Dear COGNO members

There are 67 days to go until the COGNO ASM 2018 in Brisbane!
Day two of COGNO ASM 2018 will kick off with neuro-oncology’s greatest challenge: Gliomas. The era of precision medicine raises many questions: how do we make sense of the myriad of molecular markers now available; how do we use this information to target treatments; and how do we assess response? In this session, local and international experts will address some of these challenges and update us on exciting developments in the field.
Session 5 will open with a Plenary from our fourth and final international speaker. We are delighted to welcome back Dr Susan Chang (Director of the Division of Neuro-Oncology, University of California, San Francisco, USA) who will speak on “Advanced Imaging for Glioma”. Those who have heard her speak at COGNO before will be familiar with her work which has expanded to include research into novel imaging techniques and tissue biomarkers of glioblastoma. Professor Chang has recently been co-recipient of a SPORE project for evaluating the role of magnetic resonance spectroscopy in diagnosing tumours and evaluating therapeutic interventions.
Professor Mark Gilbert (Chief of the Neuro-Oncology Branch, Center for Cancer Research at the National Cancer Institute (NIH), USA) will follow on with an update on “Histone Mutated Midline Gliomas in Adults”. Histone mutations are novel mechanisms of cancer generation and are increasingly recognised as important in adults with midline gliomas.
Professor David Walker will provide some local flavour with a discussion of “Adoptive T cell therapy for GBM”. Professor Walker in conjunction with the Tumour Immunology Laboratory at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute have been investigating the association between human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and GBM, through clinical trials of Adoptive T cell therapy with HCMV specific cytotoxic T cells.
Session 5 promises to be an exciting start to day two of the conference. Please join us for what is sure to be an entertaining and informative session.
