COGNO ASM Session 6: Survivorship and Supportive Therapies

Dear COGNO members

There are 25 days to go until the COGNO ASM 2018 in Brisbane!

Session 6 focuses on core survivorship issues and recent advances in supportive therapies, which relate to addressing the functional effects and psychosocial impact of brain tumour. This session will initially involve a series of talks from international, national and local speakers and these speakers will then be part of an interactive panel session chaired by Professor Tamara Ownsworth and Julia Robertson, Co-Facilitator of the Brain Tumour Support Group (Cancer Council Queensland).

In the first talk Professor Terri Armstrong (National Cancer Institute) will describe the use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures to improve symptom management. Following this, Dr Prue Cormie (Australian Catholic University) will discuss applications of exercise medicine in cancer. We will then hear from Professor Susan Chang (University of California) about the UCSF Neuro-oncology Gordon Murray Caregiver Program, a support program specifically designed for carers. Four speakers will then showcase their research on sleep disturbance (Megan Jeon), health-related quality of life (Lobna Alukaidey), social and psychological functioning (Lee Cubis) and nurse-led carer support (Georgia Halkett).

The panel session will provide a great opportunity for delegates to learn more from our speakers and to share their own experiences of living with the effects, or supporting people with brain tumour.
